Petra has had a bumper year - breaking records for the number of tourists visiting this historic site.  The area around Wadi Musa reveals much about more contemporary life in the area such as a Bedouin “fence” and abandoned villages that use ancient building techniques but have been abandoned in living memory.  Mohammad, a local Bedouin now living in Wadi Musa, told me his father had been born in this village about 500m above Wadi Musa and yet there is no evidence of roads or other modern amenities in the village.
